Rita Timpanaro Conducts Mounted Hunter Seat Equitation Clinics Nationwide

Get A Judge's Point Of View From a Nationally Known Trainer And USEF Judge!

Rita is available to host a HUNTER SEAT EQUITATION CLINIC at your Barn!

Chicory Meadow Farm, Cortlandt, NY October 8-9, 2023

Rita has served as a clinician at various facilities throughout the nation. She incorporates into her clinics the system she has developed during her extensive riding career as a rider, trainer and USEF “R” judge for 45 years. She loves teaching riders of all ages and levels of riding! Each clinic is based on the American Hunter Jumper Forward System of riding and training horses. In 2011-2016, Rita served as a USHJA Certified Trainer and was honored to be a USHJA Certified Clinician.

The clinic is set up by the clinic organizer of the facility where the clinic is being offered in the following manner:

  • One, two and three day clinics
  • 1 1/2 or 2 hours per sessions
  • 3-8 riders per session
  • 2-4 sessions per day

Private and semi-private sessions may be arranged as well. In addition, video sessions are offered. A video of each horse and rider is taken, analyzed, and reviewed. The following sessions are offered:

A: Ground Poles – Cross rails

B: 2′ – 2’6″

C: 3′ – 3’3″

D: 3’6″ and higher

Each clinic session consists of flat work, gymnastics, and jumping a course in accordance with the level of horse and rider. Based on the American Hunter-Jumper Forward system, Rita incorporates exercises to help improve the position of the rider and stressed the influence the aids of the rider have on the performance of the horse. The rhythm of the horse, track the rider chooses, and balance of both horse and rider are emphasized. Each is given the opportunity to work within their abilities and enhance their knowledge and skills. At the conclusion of the clinic, all participants, trainers, auditors and parents are invited to ask questions. “From the judge’s” perspective, each has the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the system and criteria used in judging horse shows!

Throughout the years as a USEF judge Rita has developed a scoring system for both flat and over fences classes. Often she structures the clinic “from the judge’s” perspective. At the conclusion of a flat exercise, the rider receives a score, with detailed review. At the conclusion of performance over a designated course, the rider again receives a score, with a detailed review. This approach is extremely beneficial to participants, trainers, parents and auditors.

In 2015, Rita was honored to judge the prestigious, Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, held in Brandon, Canada (March 29-April 4, 2015). She was chosen to give the “Ask the Judge” clinic. Participants gained a better understanding of the details involved in judging. It was very well attended and the participants enjoyed it!

Rita served as the hunter/jumper clinician at Equine Affaire, November 11-14, 2021, Eastern States Exposition, West Springfield, MA. Clinic sessions included:

“Fix the Chip! Getting the Right Distance to the Jump Every Time”

“Equitation over Fences: Connecting the Dots & Winning Your Equitation Class”
